Roof Leak Repair – Fix That Blown Roof

Most of the time when you’re doing any home improvement DIY work, you make a lot of “small” mistakes. Sometimes these mistakes are very noticeable and other times homeowners let them go, but they should always be overlooked by a pro. This time was no exception.

riverhead roof repair contract

In August 2024, when we arrived at a Riverhead NY home improvement project, the sun was shining beautifully and I was ready to tackle this job right away. First of all, I checked out the condition of the fascia boards that were hanging over the rotting roof. The fascia was completely cracked and everything was peeling. The fascia was actually attached to the rafters by two pieces of board, but the two pieces of board were rotting away at the edge where they met the rafter. This was a problem because if the fascia was not properly installed then it would have been extremely difficult to repair and could have compromised the entire roof.

When we inspected the condition of the fascia, I then remembered that the customer had ordered some ice weight pipe insulation to put between the fascia and the two rafters that it was attached to. Since they had two pieces of board that were rotting away, the homeowner decided to make a quick repair with some caulking and put that in between the rafters. The caulking did a great job of keeping the moisture out and also it held the integrity of the fascia. After they caulked the rafters, they went on to the attic and called us as a roof leak repair contractor. When I checked the attic I found a small hole in the roofing shingles that was creating a water flow under the roofing tiles.

They removed that leak and used some wood filler to fill the hole and re-attach the shingles. Then used some rubber and composite roofing material to patch up the hole. After that, the homeowner used some very cheap tacks that were available at a local hardware store and used those to stick the rubber strips to the roofing. That solved the initial leaking problem. After they finished all of that work, they realized that the fascia was probably the culprit and could not find a way to fix that without re-roofing the whole thing.

Pro Home Repair East Hampton sent a crew out to take a look. The homeowner had this to say, “after about an hour of examining the damage I had a quote for $400. I was glad that I could get this problem fixed rather than have to pay for an expensive roof leak repair job.” Give us a call today. We’re here to help.
